The Danish Girl filming news - 2015 fall release

Deadline: Will it be an Eddie Redmayne-Michael Keaton face off during awards season again next year?
The two may very well go head-to-head again next year for films that have the potential to be major players:
“The Danish Girl” and “Spotlight.”

The filmmakers contacted Stryker for her advice on what type of image would be appropriate for this “first photo from The Danish Girl” release. Correctly anticipating that Redmayne would win the Oscar, they expected the paparazzi to be all over him; they’d be shooting exteriors soon, and, as they told Stryker, “we really want to be in control of Eddie’s image, and we want this to hit the press right.” As Stryker tells is, “They were debating: do we do he’s getting into makeup, a full body shot, something on the set? And I recommended they do a glamorous headshot. ‘Make him look really good. Don’t have it look like a guy in a dress. Make him look like a fine babe.’ Personally, I thought they did a really good job with the hair and makeup and the pose and all of that.” (x) via

The Danish Girl to be released in NY and LA on Nov 27, 2015
The Danish Girl, directed by Academy Award winner Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech, Les Misérables) and starring Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything, Les Misérables) and Alicia Vikander (A Royal Affair, Anna Karenina), will be released domestically by Focus Features in exclusive engagements in New York and Los Angeles beginning Friday, November 27th, 2015, and by Universal Pictures International overseas. Focus CEO Peter Schlessel made the announcement today.
The Danish Girl is the remarkable love story inspired by the lives of artists Einar and Gerda Wegener (being portrayed, respectively, by Eddie Redmayne and Alicia Vikander), whose marriage and work are cast into the unknown when Einar begins a groundbreaking journey to become one of the world’s first transgender women, Lili Elbe. The Danish Girl has been adapted into a screenplay by BAFTA Award nominee Lucinda Coxon, based on the novel of the same name by David Ebershoff. The film’s cast also includes Matthias Schoenaerts (The Drop), Ben Whishaw (Skyfall), and Amber Heard (The Rum Diary). The film’s producers are Gail Mutrux (Kinsey) through her Pretty Pictures production company, Anne Harrison (Two Family House) through her Harrison Productions, Working Title co-chairs Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner, and Tom Hooper. Linda Reisman is executive-producing The Danish Girl with Ulf Israel of Senator Global Productions. (x)

Focus Features’s CEO Peter Schlessel : “In the tradition of Focus’ history of epic and moving love stories, THE DANISH GIRL promises to be unforgettable. Tom Hooper is an extraordinary storyteller who always elicits beautiful performances from his actors. We are so pleased to be working with Eddie Redmayne again after our shared success with Working Title on THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING.” source: focusfeatures (via)

TDG WILL Actually film for 10 days in late March in City center of Copenhagen,
THANX to CPH Film Fund. The Film Fund is thrilled to finally see an international movie filmed here - the Fund with director Thomas Gammeltoft has worked for years to land such a project, in fact long before the movie came to be
and the Fund has invested aprox six mill DKK, so landing this is very special. Einar Wegener lived in CPH and to
film part of TDG 'on location' is very special, says Thomas Gammeltoft. (x) (via)

- My Danish Redmayniac friend Luise translated the article:
KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN: Oscar-winners to film in the streets of Copenhagen (CPH). In late March two Oscar-winners will film the movie The Danish Girl (TDG) in CPH. In late March CPH will host some rather posh visitors. This year's Oscar winner for Best Male, Eddie Redmayne, and the winner for Best Director (2010) Tom Hooper will visit our country's capital to film the movie "TDG".
(Link to other Danish article about Mr M playing the role og transgender legend Einar Wegener - I will have this ready by Sunday for y'all ) The movie TDG is inspired by the true story of Danish Einar Wegener, who in the 1930's was among the first men in the World to undergo a sexchange operation. The leading role as Einar Wegener is played by the British actor Edide Redmayne who recently won an Oscar for his much acclaimed role in "The Theory of Everything" - in movie theatres now. Director of TDG, British Tom Hopper, also has a golden Oscar statue on HIS premises for Best Director of the movie The King's Speech", 2010. The filming which will take place in the city center of CPH for a period of 10 days became a reality, when Copenhagen Film Fund (CPH FF) invested 6 million DKK in the project. It is the first time a major international film will be shot in CPH and CPH FF director Thomas Gammeltoft is indeed a happy man after the deal come through. "TDG is a fantastic project andit is great joy for the Fund that the movie is now being filmed "on location" in the inner city, where Einar Wegener in fact lived himself", says Thomas Gammeltoft and continue: "Ever since CPH FF was founded we have worked intense and hard to get an international filmset to CPH. And since we started the Fund - well actually long before that - TDG has been on our minds. However, it was only possible to get the project to CPH with the foundation of the CPH FF because we now had the means to help finance the project. Other leading roles in TDG besides Eddie Redmayne are the Swedish actress Alicia Vikander, known for her role in "A Royal Affair", Amber Heard, Matthias Schoenaerts and Ben Whishaw. The movie is expected to premiere in 2016....
