Fantastic Beasts casting news - Eddie's Harry Potter connection

Eddie Redmayne will star as Newt Scamander in the film, which David Yates will direct for Warner Bros.
Warner Bros. and director David Yates have narrowed down their choices for the two female leads opposite Eddie Redmayne’s Newt Scamander in J.K. Rowling‘s “Harry Potter” spinoff “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” TheWrap has learned.(image)
Here's the shortlist of the key femail roles in the movie the sisters Tina and Queenie.

Saoirse RonanDakota FanningLili Simmons and Alison Sudol are up for the role of the younger sister

As two of the top actresses of their generation, Fanning and Ronan need no introduction, and both are attractive possibilities having eschewed Hollywood franchises with the exception of Fanning’s supporting turn in the “Twilight” sequels.
Simmons is an up-and-comer whoe TV credits include HBO’s “True Detective” and Cinemax’s “Banshee,” while Sudol is a talented musician who co-stars on USA’s “Dig” and Amazon’s acclaimed series “Transparent.”

Kate Upton, Katherine Waterston and Elizabeth Debicki are being eyed to play the older sister

Upton is a well-known swimsuit model who starred in the romantic comedy “The Other Woman”and is currently filming William H. Macy’s indie “The Layover” with Alexandra Daddario. At one point she was sought for the female lead in WB’s “Entourage,” which eventually went to fellow model Emily Ratajkowski.
Debicki and Waterston are two rising stars whose careers were launched by Warner Bros., as Waterston starred opposite Joaquin Phoenix in the studio’s Paul Thomas Anderson comedy “Inherent Vice,” while Debicki burst onto the scene in Baz Luhrmann’s “The Great Gatsby”before snagging a key role in Guy Ritchie’s upcoming WB release “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.”

Though it’s unclear whether all of those actresses are available or even wish to pursue the project,
several of them already have test deals in place, and Redmayne is expected to read
alongside them during those tests, which are slated to take place over the next week.
As with any shortlist, this one is just a snapshot in time, as it is still early in the process and there may be
others in the mix down the line. Warner Bros., for its part, had no comment.

Rowling wrote the script herself for “Fantastic Beasts,” which is set in New York roughly seven decades before the start of the “Harry Potter” saga. Only a handful of insiders have read the script, though a breakdown has been circulating throughout Hollywood’s top talent agencies. An extension of the wizarding world first depicted in that franchise, “Fantastic Beasts” is based on the Hogwarts textbook of the same name written by Scamander, a “magiczoologist” who is an expert in magical creatures.(image)

But what’s a young hero without a villain? Rumor has it Dan FoglerZack Pearlman, and Steve Zissis are all in the running for Jacob, Newt’s rival. It’s interesting that the majority of the names in the running here are actually American—a change of pace for a franchise famous for casting the cream of the British acting crop. But it would make sense given that Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is reportedly set in New York. It seems that this new trilogy will be a change of pace in more ways than one. (x)

“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” is intended to launch a trilogy, and Warner Bros. will release the first film on Nov. 18, 2016.

Artwork by Kate Waddington - making of a portrait

Beautiful portrait of Eddie Redmayne based on a photo from GQ Australia 2015 February issue (x)
Kate is a young artist from Sydney. She documented on her Instagram how she made this portrait.
I miss the freckles, but I understand that paint them with this technique is risky, easy to ruin the pic.

Hello Eddie! This face is slightly on an angle (very slightly). As you
can see, the right side of the face is a little wider than the left.(x)

Lip marking after finding the width of the face (measured at the base of the eyes). (x)

Update May 25, 2015:
I totally agree with this post about Eddie Redmayne's portrayal of Balem:
fuckyeahjupiterascending: Evil Overlord Acting
...I think people find it ridiculous/laughable because they make absolutely no attempt to understand it. Critics have literally been incapable of seeing past the histrionics and the extreme voice modulations, and consequently find the performance itself incredibly arbitrary and bizarre. Now, it is a gloriously unhinged performance, yes, but that’s the whole point of it - Redmayne is playing an insane, 50,000-year-old man who has remained functional purely on account of the magic of space capitalism. Naturally, he gives a bold performance - the role demanded it and the Wachowskis wanted it, so Redmayne gave in to the madness and went with it....
...“He played the role perfectly. And I mean perfectly. He was disgusting and despicable. His character had serious mommy issues and it showed not only in his interaction with Mila but in his character’s general character. He was a spoiled brat who murdered his own mother and was forced to look those feelings of guilt, sacrifice, loathing, familial love, desperation and self hate in the face and do it all over again. It was fucking magnificent.”(x)
...there’s a genuinely impressive and fascinating performance there if you can look beyond the volume of Redmayne’s voice. Anyone who suggests that Redmayne gave a ‘bad’ performance in Jupiter Ascending can go to hell - it’s a mad performance, but it goes to the bone and is ludicrously entertaining...
