Busy day in LA - Monday, February 2nd 2015

Eddie Redmayne had a busy day in Los Angeles before he flew back to London.
He started in the morning with a live interview in Good Day LA on FOX11.
At Noon he attended the 87th Annual Academy Awards Nominee Luncheon at The Beverly Hilton Hotel.
Deadline caught up with him:
"All the lead acting contenders attended including…Eddie Redmayne, who told me he was having a hell of a day. In addition to the lunch, he’s doing Conan O’Brien’s show, walking the red carpet for the Jupiter Ascending premiere and then accepting an award from the AARP. No rest for the weary, but after today it’s back to England and starting work on Tom Hooper’s The Danish Girl until he comes back for the Oscars." (via)

In my Tumblr blog I reblogged many related posts.

In the interview with Maria and Lisa, Eddie explains that playing a character like Stephen Hawking
came with a nervous set of challenges. He talked about his upcoming projects too.

While at the Oscar nominees luncheon on Monday in Los Angeles, Eddie Redmayne told reporters about his surreal experience at the airport last month, a day after winning his Golden Globe for The Theory of Everything.
“I saw the bag go through [the X-ray machine] and I saw the [T.S.A. attendant] stop the thing and then go close up on this weird shaped thing,” explained the actor. “She was like, ‘I think it’s an award or something.’”
Redmayne revealed that he was thrilled at the chance to show off his shiny new statuette.
“I was praying that they would make me open it up… and they did. That was very special moment,” he said, even if the T.S.A. attendant did not seem to recognize him. “The guy was like, ‘Is this real?’”

Deadline: Oscar Nominees Groove On The Gray At AARP ‘Movies For Grownups’ Awards Gala

And sinceEddie Redmayne already has done Fallon — and Kimmel and Seth and possibly every single other show — Focus booked him onConan for another shot before hitting the red carpet for his new film, Jupiter Ascending.
But that wasn’t all. The indefatigable Redmayne also showed at yet another event Monday: AARP’s Movies For Grownups Awards Gala & Dinner at the Beverly Wilshire. He and co-star Felicity Jones were there to accept Best Picture for Grownups for their film, The Theory Of Everything. After his early-evening appearance at AARP, Redmayne was supposed to catch his plane back to England to start work on The Danish Girl, but shortly after, he came back in the room and told me: “I missed my flight. It was cancelled due to snow.” He ended up staying at the dinner, hosted by John Leguizamo, for the whole night.

Flickering Myth: Jupiter Ascending debuts at Sundance to negative response
In a somewhat strange decision by Warner Bros., last night saw the first public screening of the upcoming blockbuster Jupiter Ascending at the Sundance Film Festival, which was met with a muted reaction, reports Variety....
Neville Kiser, a Hollywood screenwriter...: “I actually liked it,” he said. “But the Sundance context is weird. There were so many people in the audience scoffing and sneering. They are forgetting they are watching a movie targeted primarily to teenage boys. I’m sure those 15-year-old boys, and hopefully girls, will like it.” Kiser also said that the film screening at Sundance probably hurt the film even more due to the highbrow nature of the festival....read more

GRANT HILL TALKS JUPITER ASCENDING IN TOTAL FILM MAG
Multiple Academy Awards nominee – producer Grant Hill – talks making of Jupiter Ascending in Total Film magazine.
“Balem is one of three siblings who are fighting each other in an almost medieval way,” Hill explains of Eddie Redmayne’s villain. “They’re always plotting against each other to increase their share of the inheritance of the various planets in the universe. Balem owns a lot of it – he has a lot to lose if Jupiter inherits the throne, as it were – which is in effect what her journey is, once she’s discovered to be a pureblood. Jupiter and Balem have a hostile relationship. Balem’s very violent and intense. He’s willing to go to any lengths for (Jupiter’s ascension to the throne) not to happen. By this stage, he has presided over the kidnapping of her family; he is trying to get her to disinherit herself to save them. “We were really lucky to get all of our ideal cast. Lana and Andy sat down with Eddie and basically said, “Do you want to be in a science-fiction movie with a lot of action and you in the middle of it?” His ears pricked up and he said, “Yes, I’d like to do that.” He came up with that character with Lana and Andy. It’s just such a wonderful, strong different take on a villain. Just remarkable.” (via)

GRANT HILL DISHES ON JUPITER ASCENDING AND ITS DELAY
The producer of Jupiter Ascending – Grant Hill - spoke to ScifiNow. In the newest issue he talks a little bit about the movie story and explains the unfamous delay.
“It’s a very grand world – or series of worlds – that have been created. They’re very vivid and very different, and the look and the workings of these worlds is just something that I think, on a scale, hasn’t really been seen before.”
“There’s a freshness, certainly, from the smallest thing to the broad vision of the world. It’s just so re-envisaged that it does take your breath away a little bit. But I guess that at centre of it, it is also a sort of sibling rivalry story, which is a story that people know, people have seen it in their own families, and they’ve seen it in large more prominent families. It’s about rivalry, it’s about the relationship of a family, and at its heart it’s a love story. - read more

DIY Magazine:
PRODUCER GRANT HILL DISCUSSES EXCLUSIVE JUPITER ASCENDING CONCEPT ART

...If you go back to the design of all of the ships, or any of the crafts in the skies, we wanted to invent a new aesthetic. But while it’s easy to say, it’s hard to just totally reinvent the perception of what these crafts might be, what the science and technology is behind them. We decided that we wanted to build all of the ships as a more organic base....
In this week’s edition of the Variety Movie Commercial Tracker, powered by iSpot.tv, “Jupiter Ascending” displaced “American Sniper” with the top TV ad spend, laying out an estimated $10.3 million on 972 national airings across 46 networks, led by MTV and Comedy Central.
