Comic Con 2018 - FBTCoG press conference

Eddie Redmayne, Alison Sudol, Dan Fogler, Katherine Waterston, Ezra Miller,
Callum Turner, Claudia, Kim, Zoë Kravitz and Jude Law were present in
The international press conference at Comic Con in San Diego,
Hilton Bayfront, Sapphire AB, July 21 2018

"Eddie: "There's nothing more joyous, than arriving on one of these sets. It feels
like imagination on steroids. You're kind of, you're allowed the freedom to play
within an already insanely imaginative world with creatives to a play, who've
given free rein to play at the top of their game. And for all of us coming back, we
had the most wonderful time in the first film, and I love David Yates for hiring
such a wonderful band of people for the next film, because it is the actual joy, it's
such fun to come to work, and there was never a day, when it felt anything lessen."

Eddie: Katherine and I weren't invited to Hogwarts, so
we stole in ourselves and took selfies, illegal selfies.
(I wish I could see them)

What would be Eddie's boggart? "I think rubbish trucks...you know they smell
whatever, but when they go into London I should have to take a deep breath if I see
one within my eyesight, and stop breathing out for like the next twenty minutes."

Eddie on Newt's costume: "And I think part of the thing is also the aging or changing
aspect of it, but all of us coming back to the film was - you know there were certain
things like clean up with the amazing costume designer. She and I tried various
different outfits for Newt. We tried even - at the beginning of the film he's in the
British Ministry - we tried putting him in a normal tie, we tried putting him into an...
and some things just like woaaaa... we tried to experiment, experimenting with
pushing Newt from that sihouette, and the end we decided to keep certain elements
similar, and then put a shift of a sense of maturity. I think all of our characters did
that. It was a really wonderful subtle thing trying the best."

Eddie on Newt and Dumbledore: Yeah, I love the relationship, that Jo has kind of
sketched between us too, and it begins to get investigated in this film. One of the
things I adore about Newt is, he's entirely his own person, and that is something,
that I think when he's been taught by Dumbledore as a kid Dumbledore's really
respected. And part of this film is sort of a master apprentice thing. Newt - as
kind of get a glimpse of him in the new trailer - Dumbledore's always - he's a sly
one - you know he was always kind of gently manipulating, and Newt kind of
conscious of it, but he can't help but love him, and that sort of master apprentice
slightly challenging, I mean it's all part of a bit. And I also have to say, I've been
such a massive fan of Jude. I've known Jude for about 15 years, I have been one
of the great joys of this, getting to work with that man..."

Eddie: Gosh! I try to think of one of the most enjoyable things, that we're allowed to talk about... I don't know if we're allowed to talk about it, but the niffler is back, as you saw in the trailer, but the niffler may have babies...that's the part, that I kind of - it's almost the most complicated part, because you're acting with nothing, or with tennis balls, or hacky sacks in that particular, but also it's so joyous, and it was also something I enjoyed much more on this film, because in the first film I was so worried about it, and actually it was from Dan Fogler, who - I remember Dan and I doing a scene in the case in the last film, and I've been working on exactly how these creatures moved...and Dan was like 'How big is it?' and did this kind of extraordinary round, was much more free, and improvising with it..."

French interview from melty

Interesting French interview with Eddie Redmayne about the upcoming
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald movie.

Huge thanks to @fantastic.beasts.and.ju who posted the translation.
You find her Instagram posts here:  Part1 - Part 2
You can read it below (click for full size).

Eddie on Newt's outfit in the new movie: “-Laughing– When we see Newt for the first time,
he is surrounded by bureaucracy, the least comfortable place for him, and he does not feel right
in his environment. Colleen, the costume designer, thought to give him a tie or bow tie and a new
outfit. But whist acting with this new outfit, it seemed like he was a totally different person and
we said, “Oh no no no, back to the comfort zone”. We tried to see if it was possible, to change his
silhouette, with different colours. So, we changed the costume, but it’s a more modified version.”

Eddie Discusses Newt and Tina in the interview (via hearts-at-hogwarts.tumblr.com
Q: JK Rowling has created Newt very early during the building of her universe. To know
in advance what will be his fate, who he is going to marry, etc. Has this affected you?
A: "The first thing I have done is to read the book where we learn all those information
about him and Tina living in the countryside. It was on my mind but I also took into account
the tone and the way Newt has created Fantastic Beasts because she (JK) has written it with
the idea of doing a series. I did not use it as a model to define his voice, if it makes sense.
But what was really interesting for me was to record the audio book after the first movie. It
was amazing to listen to Newt talking, his way of using words and it was a happy coincidence.
But Katherine and me, are aware about the conclusion for Newt and Tina, and Jo told us that
this will be slow build. This is a thing I like, the fact that the end of the movie is the start
of something, that will bring a lot of miscommunication in the second one. We have two
persons who are really incompetent at articulating emotions and trying to find each other."

BuzzFeed Fantastic Fan Q & A (NEW!)

Last week, BuzzFeed people had the opportunity to meet with the stars of Fantastic Beasts: The
Crimes Of Grondelwald, Eddie Redmayne and Katherine Waterston, to get some info about the
upcoming sequel. Fans submitted a wide variety of queries, and some of them got answer for
their questions. You can read the full interview here.

Eddie on the Newt-Tina relationship: "There was so much hope at the end of the last film,
but there’s miscommunication....It’s desperate because they’re sort of pining for each other,
but things have gone awry. Part of this film is about them re-finding each other...
We were quite excited at the end of the last film. We thought, Oh my god, we’re going to get
to have a lot of fun working together on this film! And then the script arrived and it became
clear that it wasn’t going to be that easy. We’re going to have to work for this romance."

On the sequel: "It’s so much darker than the last one. I think Jo loves that. In fact, I think
she even said that to me on set. She was like, 'I just love it when it gets darker.'...
I love that she has such an extraordinary imagination for plot. It’s so tightly wound, this
story, that you have to pick apart each element of it. It feels like an extraordinary puzzle.”

On Newt: "...One of the lovely things that I adore about Newt is that he’s just completely
his own person – he doesn’t get pulled in to become a member of the tribe. People are always
trying to recruit him, but he’s his own person. And yet, actually, the stakes get so high in this
film that it’s really him questioning whether he can continue doing that or whether at some
point you have to engage."

"As for Dumbledore, he and Newt have always had this kind of wonderful master/apprentice
quality and there’s kind of a joy between them. But Dumbledore’s sly. Dumbledore’s been
recruiting Newt a little bit, and he certainly does in this film. I suppose the reason he’s
pulled to engage is because the stakes are so high. That Grindelwald dude is causing havoc."

On the reuniting of the fantastic four: "Those first early days when we come back to
work, there’s no work happening. It’s just life catch-up and David Yates occasionally going,
“OK, there’s work going on here, team. Enough with the banter.”...The idea of the quartet...
I think, momentarily, the band has been disbanded."

Eddie and Katherine also talked about the filming with beasts, the relationship
of the Scamander brothers, the most magical moment on set and more...

The post includes a six minute video of Eddie and Katherine answering some
of the questions, and some beautiful photos by Laura Gallant.

Eddie Redmayne's Top 10 Rules for Success by Evan Carmichael

What  helped Eddie Redmayne to become one of the most successful actors? Evan Carmichael
posted on YouTube an interesting compilation from some of Eddie's best conversation videos.

“Be BRAVE Enough to SCREW UP. I try genuinely, when I'm playing a character, to not
judge them and just to inhabit someone as how one sees them. That being said, you also
want to make sure that you don't blur the edges of people too much because humans are
naughty and complicated beings.” – Eddie Redmayne

Grab a snack and chew on today's lessons from
a man who went from finding his love for acting
at the age of 10, briefly pursuing a modeling career, to winning an Academy Award for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything, and becoming one of the most successful actors working today. He's Eddie Redmayne and here's my take on his Top 10 Rules for Success! (x)

BuzzFeed interview videos - Spilling the tea with Eddie Redmayne

1. Tea or coffee? Eddie Redmayne: Coffee.

2. How do you take it? ER: I like it with a lot of milk. I’m either a latte man, or an Americano with a lot of milk and sugar. A lot of sugar. I can occasionally go to that mocha-cappa-racca-racca thing depending on the time of year. Is that too long an answer?

3. Puppies or kittens? ER: Puppies!

 4. What animal do you think you’re most like? ER: Well, when I was doing the first Fantastic Beasts, I did this whole Pottermore Patronus thing and I was a Basset hound dog. Twice. Which sort of broke all the algorithm rules of that thing, so I felt like that was the world – or J.K. Rowling’s world – telling me that I was, in fact, a Basset hound. I’ll take that.
...

What Hogwarts house are you in?

Have you ever freaked out about meeting a celebrity?
ER: “Yes. It was Allison Janney, who I think is one of the greatest actors in the world and hopefully will win an Oscar this year. She was in The West Wing – she plays CJ Cregg. It’s basically the only television show I’ve ever really watched, and I was obsessed with her. I got to meet her several years ago at the Golden Globes. We walked into this room, and she was there at this party, and my wife walked up to her and basically apologised on my behalf for how I was about to behave, for being too keen and gushing. She is as formidable in life as she is on screen”
