Inside Movies: Eddie Redmayne on playing (and meeting) Stephen Hawking
...Redmayne says. “Our film is about how they defied all the odds.”
To prepare for the film, which is released Nov. 7, the actor met with Hawking himself. “Even now, when he’s unable to move, you can still see such effervescence in his eyes,” he says.
Redmayne describes portraying Hawking onscreen as a “hefty” challenge. “The real problem with making a film is of course you don’t shoot chronologically,” says the actor. “So it was about having to really try and chart his physical deterioration [so] you can jump into it day-to-day, whilst at the same time keeping this spark and wit and humor that he has.”
Director James Marsh, best known for directing the Oscar-winning 2009 documentary Man on Wire, studied archival images to give the film authenticity, including photographs from the Hawkings’ wedding in 1965 such as the one you can see above. “When we had photographs and documentary footage of Stephen that related to our story, we tried to reproduce them as best we could,” says the filmmaker. Hawking had been diagnosed with ALS just a few years before his wedding, but the photos revealed that he was already severely affected physically. “His choice to have a walking stick even in that staged photo mean that the decline was strong enough that he couldn’t stand by himself for that moment,” says Redmayne.
But the archival shots showed the actor something else. “There are some photos where he is incredibly smiley,” says Redmayne. “It was a great moment of happiness.”

METRO: 6 reasons the Stephen Hawking biopic The Theory of Everything is pure Oscar bait
...it is hard not to get swept up. I did. In fact, I felt so utterly moved after watching the trailer that I am now desperate to see the full movie...
...Biopics always do well when it comes to award season and by the looks of it, this will not be an exception to the rule...

HFPA Banquet red carpet videos - Remembering Robin Williams

Video from the HFPA Charity Banquet's red carpet - short Eddie Redmayne interview from 3:43
He talked about how extraordinary was shooting 'The Theory of Everything' and meeting the Hawkings

"It’s going good! It’s amazing! I’m sort of leaving most of it up to my fiancée, but we’re getting there! We’re still in like the embryonic stage [of planning]. We’re trying to enjoy the engagement side of it. I feel like when you get married, everything sort of rushes past, so we’re trying to sit in each bit and enjoy that..." - gifs from the video here

Tatum and other stars at the HFPA event chatted with ET's Brooke Anderson about the passing of Robin Williams and what they'll remember most about the beloved actor/comedian. - video

EDDIE REDMAYNE ON ROBIN WILLIAMS:
"I just admired him as the rest of the world did, and as a kid…my God, “Mrs. Doubtfire”. I loved “Mrs. Doubtfire”! It was an extraordinary film, and “Good Morning, Vietnam” is my Dad’s favorite film. So I grew up on him and it’s been a really tragic week." (x) gifs from the video here

O Captain! My Captain!
By Walt Whitman
Eddie read this poem at Josephine Poetry Week, Arts Theatre, 12 October 2012.
O Captain! my Captain! our fearful trip is done,
The ship has weather’d every rack, the prize we sought is won,
The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring;
But O heart! heart! heart!
O the bleeding drops of red,
Where on the deck my Captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead.
O Captain! my Captain! rise up and hear the bells;
Rise up—for you the flag is flung—for you the bugle trills,
For you bouquets and ribbon’d wreaths—for you the shores a-crowding,
For you they call, the swaying mass, their eager faces turning;
Here Captain! dear father!
This arm beneath your head!
It is some dream that on the deck,
You’ve fallen cold and dead.
My Captain does not answer, his lips are pale and still,
My father does not feel my arm, he has no pulse nor will,
The ship is anchor’d safe and sound, its voyage closed and done,
From fearful trip the victor ship comes in with object won;
Exult O shores, and ring O bells!
But I with mournful tread,
Walk the deck my Captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead.
Article about the event:

Amazing article with quotes from Christopher Reeve about Robin Williams and their friendship:
The Daily Beast:
...“Robin is a person who gives to people 24 hours a day. The gift of joy, the gift of laughter. Just to be in a room with Robin Williams is a privilege. He’s a gift to the world.”
