"The Danish Girl," recent criticism of the lack of diversity at the Oscars and the impact of his work on the
transgender community. Watch his full press conference at the 88th Annual Oscars Nominees Luncheon

He said: “It’s such an extraordinary ride. Last year was like being hit by a bulldozer and it’s such a frenzy of emotions that you try to remain open enough to enjoy it and remember it.” Redmayne will attend the Oscar ceremony with his wife Hannah Bagshawe, who is pregnant with their first child, and he said the pair would try to take it easy beforehand. “You think of it as an evening event but it takes such a long time, I will have a calm day,” he said. “I promise Hannah whenever we come to LA that the sun will be shining, but it rained last year. We will have a gentle day and relax and enjoy it. Last year I was such a frenzy of nerves .” Asked if he would have a glass of champagne, he replied: “Several.” Redmayne also addressed the controversy over the lack of diversity in the Oscar nominations when asked if it was something the chosen actors had discussed. He said: “We haven’t all met together until this occasion but it’s on everyone minds and the way it has been handled seems to be a positive step.” (x) via

On the impact of "The Danish Girl" on the transgender community:
"I would never assume that the film would have any sort of huge effect, but I hope that what we were doing is continuing the conversation. It's an extraordinary thing for us that, in the past year or two, trans issues have come into the mainstream media and yet what is dumbfounding is it's almost 100 years since Lili and Gerda's story. Everyone goes, 'It's happening. The change is happening.' But what's staggering to me is how long it's taken and how much of a distance there is to go." (x)

The Danish Girl had its Swedish premiere at the Göteborg Film Festival. Director Tom Hooper is the 2016 recipient
of the Honorary Dragon Award. Hooper visited Gothenburg during the festival on 3-4 February to recieve his award.
(You can find the video above on my playlist too)

"The Danish Girl shares with The King’s Speech that theme of the blocks that lie between us and the best version of ourselves – and how we overcome those blocks. The film tells the extraordinary story of Lili Elbe, one of the world’s first people to undergo gender confirmation surgery, and the powerful love story of two people who go through Lili’s journey together. It movingly portrays a marriage going through a profound transformation."

..."I am thrilled to be co-hosting this year’s Film is GREAT reception," said The Danish Girl actor. "The range of British talent — both in front of and behind the camera — recognized by the film community over these past few months demonstrates the strength of the British creative industries."...
