Eddie Redmayne on his first meeting with David Yates - AOL Build Series 11.11.2016

Eddie Redmayne: When I first heard about it, I had a really top secret,
cryptic meeting with David Yates, the director. I’m in a club in London,
and it was Christmas time and it was...
Interviewer: Club? - Eddie: Yeah, in like a private member’s club
Katherine: Not like a club in the States, they have private sections
Eddie: I wasn’t dancing to Rihanna ...
I've got to do it.

Interviewer: David Yates mild-mannered director of the Harry
Potter movies in a house club in London talking about...
Eddie: Talking about Fantastic Beasts
Ezra: You got a bottle service in the firecrackers.

Interviewer: Did it happened to be there?
Eddie: Uh, no. It was...that would have been amazing,
a much better story than this one.
"...he started telling me the story, that because Jo was writing the
script  at the time, and it was about this guy Newt and his case,

and I had a case, that look kind of like Newt’s, that I used for work,
and I didn’t know anything about the story when I walked in,

but as he was telling me about ...this case in the film, my case
was sitting here and I started gently pushing it back, because
I looked like that guy that turns up dressed as the character..."

Ezra: Which by the way we’ve learned in some of these
other interviews, that Dan Fogler actually is that guy
Eddie: And now I feel very offensive, when I talk about it...

Observer January 2012 issue - interview - photos by Jason Hetherington

my collage from the photos

The Observer interview by Tim Lewis:
Interview about fans, family, career (with mini biography), and his role in 'Birdsong'

Some people used this photo for their portraits about Eddie,

"An older actor said something to me many years ago: 'The thing about you Ed, is that
you look young for your age, so you'll have quite a good run of it until you're 30 and
then it'll be interesting to see what happens.' He didn't say it in a cruel way, but it's
stuck in my mind. "Fortunately, as a guy, you're luckier than the women, who have
a really rough time of it. I have a lot of good actress girlfriends and when it gets to a
movie level it's all about weight and producers sending you to boot camps and being
really quite brusque with it. The guys get it, too: you have to buff up and there are gentle
nudges that you're…" He trails off, then exclaims: "You didn't hire me for my pecs and,
if you did, you fucked up! You hired me for my slightly off-kilter freckly appearance."

New plot details and cast members revealed
J.K. Rowling wrote the screenplay for the film, which opens in 1927, a few months after
Newt helped to unveil and capture the infamous Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald. However,
as he promised he would, Grindelwald has made a dramatic escape and has been gathering
more followers to his cause—elevating wizards above all non-magical beings. The only one
who might be able to stop him is the wizard he once called his dearest friend, Albus Dumbledore.
But Dumbledore will need help from the wizard who had thwarted Grindelwald once before,
his former student Newt Scamander. The adventure reunites Newt with Tina, Queenie and
Jacob, but his mission will also test their loyalties as they face new perils in an increasingly
dangerous and divided wizarding world. The film expands the wizarding world, moving from
New York to London and on to Paris. There are also some surprising nods to the Harry Potter
stories that will delight fans of the books and film series.

The new adventure is being filmed at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, which has been
the cinematic home of the Wizarding World since the first “Harry Potter” film.

The ensemble cast also includes William Nadylam as a wizard named Yusuf Kama;
Ingvar Sigurdsson as a bounty hunter named Grimmson; Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Skender,
who runs the wizarding circus; and Kevin Guthrie as Abernathy, whom we met as Tina and
Queenie’s boss at MACUSA (Magical Congress of the USA).
