'It was heart-rending to see him as a fully able young man': Stephen Hawking's daughter 

reveals she was moved to tears by Eddie Redmayne's portrayal of her father

...Describing her response to 33-year-old Redmayne's Oscar-winning performance, Miss Hawking said: 'I found [watching the film] to be a very emotional experience. I cried a lot, I found it really heart-rending to see my father as a young man, fully able, and then to see what led to the diagnosis… it still breaks my heart.'

Referring to a scene when Professor Hawking collapses in a courtyard at Cambridge University and subsequently being told by doctors that he has Motor Neurone Disease, Miss Hawking said: 'That moment in the film when he collapses and crashes onto the pavement and then what comes after that, the hospital diagnosis, was really hard to bear. And then the prospects in front of him… I found it very difficult.'...
...Miss Hawking, who has been recognised with a fellowship from the Royal Astronomical Society, made her comments as she helped promote the DVD release of The Theory Of Everything.

Motor neurone disease and physics both played a part in her split from her husband Stephen Hawking, she says. She talks about the challenges they faced in their 30-year marriage and about how close The Theory of Everything was to reality.
...“The important thing is that the feelings, where they are there, are very much true to our experiences. So from an emotional point of view, it’s spot on. The only thing is that they’ve had to minimise the strains and struggles, because in our real life the difficulties of dealing with Stephen’s disease were much greater than they appear in the film.”...

Stephen achieved what he wanted to achieve, we kept going for a very long time, and we had three wonderful children together.” What does she feel when she looks at him now? “I feel a great deal of admiration – and a lot of love for him too. It’s not the same kind of passionate love as before, but yes, I do still love him.”
When Hawking first saw the film, Jane laughs, “he said: ‘I would have liked more science and less emotion.’ My reaction was ‘I would have liked more emotion and less science’.”...
