"Eddie as the Emcee, a divine costume designed by Tom Scutt. Makeup design
by me and executed to perfection by @society_makeup during the show.
References for this look included, Marchesa Casati, Musidora, silent movies
of the 1920s, and Man Ray’s portraits. Eddie has the most exquisite bone
structure for this kind of look and the lighting design enhanced the skeletal
nature of the makeup, tres macabre, tres fab, j’adore!"
The new production of Cabaret at The Kit Kat Club at the Playhouse topped the charts
this year, receiving eleven nominations, including Magic Radio Best Musical Revival;
nods for Jessie Buckley, Elliot Levey, Eddie Redmayne, and Liza Sadovy for their
performances; Rebecca Frecknall for her directions; and nominations for costume,
sound design, choreography, set design, and lighting! (x)

The Guardian published an article yesterday to mark the nominations for the
Olivier Awards featuring some wonderful Cabaret dressing room photos
of Eddie preparing for the show. By photographer David Levene.
Eddie Redmayne is dressed and made-up in preparation for a performance as the Emcee
in Cabaret, during a matinee. ‘I tend to be more relaxed on a matinee. Because you’re
coming straight from the night before, you’re sort of warmed-up already. To play this
character you have to be at your most confident. Sometimes nerves can be helpful but
here they couldn’t be less helpful. So I never find out who’s coming to see the show!’
‘If it’s too loose then it falls off during the first number, which happened yesterday!’
Eddie Redmayne checks that his hat fits while listening to Fauré’s Requiem inside his
dressing room at the Playhouse. ‘I don’t know why I listen to this piece, other than
because it’s quite foreboding and it gets me into a dark headspace. I tend to listen to
this or Bach’s B-Minor Mass. It’s odd in that it’s a choral piece but there’s something
about the mood and the fact that it’s in Latin makes it somehow abstract’
The Olivier Awards show with Mastercard will be on Sunday 10 April 2022
at the Royal Albert Hall. Fingers crossed for Eddie and the other nominees
of this amazing production of Cabaret!
