Redmayne plays Einar Wegener, who in the 1930s became one of the first recipients of gender reassignment surgery and renamed herself Lili Elbe. So far, very few pictures have surfaced of Redmayne in the role, but TODAY was given an exclusive tease of the brand-new trailer for the film â and it's as stunning as its lead actor...
âEddie was really the person I wanted to make the film with, and I was very passionate about that,â the director said of his Les Miserables collaborator, who won this yearâs Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking in The Theory Of Everything. âI was a great believer in him as an actor. I think also thereâs a certain gender fluidity that I sensed in him, that I found intriguing and it led me to think he might be a really interesting person to cast in this role.â âI felt that there was something in him that was drawn to the feminine,â said Hooper. âThat was something that I felt he might be interested to explore further.â
