As a patron of the Mousetrap Theatre Project charity,
Eddie shared his top tips for performing a monologue
You can read them on the Mousetrap website here

Summary:

1. ...record yourself the very first time you read the monologue
2. Learn it. Learn it. Learn it.
3. 'Ask the question, expecting an answer...'
4. ...go for something shorter so you can work on it more intensively
5. ...find a piece of writing you can fall in love with

Update: Winners of the competition:

1st: Nansi Love - One For Sorrow
Eddie said: "Of all the performers, Nansi seemed to understand the very
specific skill of doing a monologue to camera in which we as an audience
can see every thought, every breath, every blink. Her speed of thought
was particularly impressive, with ideas tumbling one on top of the other.
She also managed to find such colour, dynamism and humour in her
despair. It was very impressive and moving."

2nd: Toby Ellis - Private Peaceful
"I thought Toby brought such clarity to the storytelling of his piece
from Private Peaceful. There was a simplicity and a stillness to the
delivery that allowed the words to carry the weight of the emotion
but belied the fervour behind his eyes."

3rd: Genevieve Labuschagne - BU21
"I loved how Genevieve embraced the absurdity and impossibility
of the situation and managed to gear change from the brilliant
humour to the darkness of scenario. I will not forget the delivery
of the line 'I run out of things to say after 12 seconds' in a hurry"

Eddie Redmayne talked about New Orleans

"I love New Orleans. I was lucky enough to make a movie there a few years ago
now, and I had one of the greatest experiences of my life. I love the people, who
are incredibly kind. I love the music, but I was so obsessed with food, and I will
never forget the beignets on a Saturday morning at Cafe du Monde, or the long
spiraling cue outside Port of Call on Esplanade, that was a cue for burger, which
was the greatest burger of my life. Many places in America claimed to have the
greatest burger in the World, but as far as I'm concerned, New Orleans wins.
Anyway, I'm thinking of you guys at this time of crisis all around the World.

Eddie spent some time in the city during the

filming of The Yellow Handkerchief in 2007.

Here's how he talked about his impression of the post-Katrina New Orleans

in his 2008 interview for New York Moves. “If you’re lucky enough to find

yourself in these places and to be able to go and see things, it’s great,... You

get an instant insight into the reality of these towns and cities and you’re not

just being a tourist... That city, I swear… it makes you think why every other

city in the world doesn’t take advice. [The people] seem to have taken this

tragedy and their strife from the other end. The drive and humor that comes

from it is a special thing.”

“In my life, she has burst like the music of angels, the light of the sun,

and my life seems to stop as if something is over and something has

scarcely begun…” - Eddie Redmayne as Marius in Les Miserables

In an interview, Eddie was asked about his best memory of filming Les Mis.
"oh I love - there's a love song in it with Amanda Seyfried and Samantha Barks,
sort of trio that we sing - that was a lovely day. It was a song that always stays
in my head, there were weird sort of stunt butterflies that were like... There
was this very beautiful set that the set designer designed, and there were these
butterflies floating around. It felt like it's a parody of what romance was."

aspirations as a painter. She also talked through her design process, her relationship with
directors such as Tim Burton and Rob Marshall, and dissected the intricacies of creating

Colleen has designed for films such as Edward Scissorhands, Memoirs Of A Geisha,

Chicago, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Silence of the Lambs...

"Colleen will often make things that are very specific to the actor that will never be seen.

So on the Fantastic Beasts film, there was this intricate pocket design, which we basically

never see in the film, but it was a way in which I knew that all the creatures could be

hiding, and I know Ezra - who's here tonight (in the audience) - had the most stunning

bit of embroidery. It's not for anyone but it's for us..."
