Met Gala 2024

Eddie and his wife Hannah attended the Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute Gala
Exhibition of “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” in New York on May 6, 2024.
Eddie wore a black wool coat with appliqués, mounted on sheer organza, with a soft
tulle skirt and black wool trousers, Hannah was in a matching sheer organza dress,
built over a tulle corset and a full underskirt, decorated with black silk crepe appliqués
tailored by British menswear designer Steve O Smith.

The 2024 Met Gala celebrates the Costume Institute’s new exhibition, “Sleeping Beauties:
Reawakening Fashion.”The official dress code is “The Garden of Time.” The exhibit features
approximately 250 rare items drawn from the Costume Institute’s permanent collection.
Spanning over 400 years of fashion history, including designs by Schiaparelli, Dior,
Givenchy, and more. Some garments that are too fragile to ever be worn again (such as
a Charles Frederick Worth ball gown from 1877) are also displayed via video animation,
light projection, AI, CGI, and other forms of sensory stimulation.

Eddie said: “We’re wearing matching outfits!”
“This is by a gentleman called Steve O. Smith, a young designer. He’s had two collections.
He’s an extraordinary man and an extraordinary designer.”

“I just saw you live,” Ashley Graham told him. “I was in the front row, and
I have to say your character, you embody that character!”
“I hope I wasn’t too lascivious,” Eddie joked. Of the show, he said, “We’re having
the most amazing time. The show is in the round. When you come from 52nd Street,
you step into this whole world of the Weimar Republic. The audience is so electric.”

He praised his costar, Gayle Rankin, who also attended the event.

When he was asked about his upcoming project, Eddie mentioned
The Day of the Jackal TV series, adding that he’s “playing an assassin
who wears quote debonaire suits — probably not tulle skirts!”

Eddie Redmayne and his wife, Hannah Bagshawe, entrusted London-based
designer Steve O Smith with creating their looks.

“I love line drawings and particularly charcoal… those great artists who could create
something extraordinary with so little – Matisse, Cy Twombly, or the romance of Seurat
charcoal drawings. Steve’s clothes merge fashion and art so uniquely and I adore that,”

“The mixture of classicism and whimsy is what Steve has created,
and the clothes are beautiful, playful, and easy to wear,”

In a new interview for British Vogue, Eddie praises the designer’s formal-with-a-twist
tailoring for its freshness. Also interwoven with those strong-yet-soft lines is the
romanticism the two creatives bonded over upon meeting at a V&A event some years ago,
when Kim Jones, the then-incoming menswear creative director, shared that his obsession
with the Bloomsbury set would underscore his vision for the house.

Celine Menswear SS2023 Show in Paris on 26 June 2022

Eddie attended the fashion show, where the luxury house CELINE presented their
Spring Summer 2023 Menswear Collection, named Dysfunctional Bauhaus, at
Palais De Tokyo, during the last day of the Paris Fashion Week. With the collection
designer Hedi Slimane pays tribute and marks the 20-year anniversary
of Palais De Tokyo, Europe’s largest center for contemporary creation.

The golden metallic abstract mobiles come down and rotate for a shimmering light effect.
We can see the reflection of the audience in them. The woman sitting next to Eddie is
pianist Héléne Mercier Arnault, the wife of LVMH boss Bernard Arnault.

I cannot believe that I could have this shot with him when I used to only
watching him by screen. Thank you for all the immense warmth, and I would
be more than honoured to have our path crossed again in the future."

Excerpt from the preview of the magazine (translated from Spanish):

During his conversation with Esquire actor Eddie Redmayne, who has just
premiered Aaron Sorkin's latest film The Trial of the Chicago 7 on Netflix,
makes a necessary, fundamental, indispensable claim, applicable at any time
in history, but especially important in these moments that we are living in now:
"It is important to believe in something to fight for. There must be hope."
Although he is not the type of artist who reflects on his career (we give him a zero
in nostalgia), he recognizes that all his characters have one point in common:
they are willing to give everything for their cause. Until the last consequences.
From Tom Hayden, in Sorkin's political drama, to Newt Scamander (in the
Fantastic Beasts saga), to Marius (Les Misérables) and Stephen Hawking
(The Theory of Everything) and Einar Wegener (The Danish Girl), all of them
share the nobility of the hero and heroine who fight for what they believe is right.

The magazine dedicated to the Men of the Year 2020 is now on sale.
