Old Etonian pal Alexander Gilkes - Peggy Siegal's Oscar Diary

William, Kate, and Jay Z’s Favorite Art Star: Alexander Gilkes' World of Rock Stars and Royalty
The handsome Alexander Gilkes is one of the best-connected tastemakers on the art scene. The auctioneer talks about knowing and employing royalty, and celebrity big spenders....
...Gilkes attended Eton, the powerhouse finishing school of the upper classes, famed for creating business and political leaders like British PM David Cameron and superstar actors with floppy fringes like Eddie Redmayne. Yes, Redmayne and Gilkes are buddies; Gilkes attended the New York premiere of the Stephen Hawking drama The Theory of Everything and wished Redmayne good luck for awards season. (read more)

London Evening Standard:
He's Princess Eugenie's boss and parties with Eddie Redmayne: meet Alexander Gilkes, founder of online auction house Paddle8
...Another Old Etonian chum is Eddie Redmayne: Gilkes’ Instagram features a snap of Redmayne celebrating with his Best Actor statuette at the Vanity Fair Oscars party. ‘It was so well-deserved. It’s amazing that within such a short career he’s managed to reach the zenith of his game.’ Has Redmayne bought anything on the site? ‘That’s the most important thing in the art world — you’ve got to keep a lid on who you’ve sold to.’

Look what I found when I did my research about Alexander Gilkes!
Peggy Siegal Oscar Diary 2015
Excerpts:
...Emma Stone, Meryl Streep, Julianne Moore, Lena Dunham and Eddie Redmayne were arriving and would be found hanging out at the terrace pool all weekend...
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 21
...6:00 p.m. Focus Features' Peter Schlessel hosted a cocktail party in honor of The Theory of Everything at the Chateau for Universal's Ron Meyer and Donna Langley, producers Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan, director James Marsh, Felicity Jones and Eddie Redmayne. Eddie had just landed from London, where he is filming Tom Hooper's The Danish Girl.
SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 22 - OSCAR NIGHT
...Breakfast was with Eddie and Hannah Redmayne on the terrace of the Sunset Tower Hotel. Eddie was cool as a cucumber, I was nauseous. As we devoured omelets, my most encouraging line to him was, "Eddie, if they don't call your name tonight, you will always have The Danish Girl next year. In a week, iconic and heroic Helen Keller will know who The Danish Girl is." Eddie whispered, "Who is Helen Keller?" Hannah fell off her chair. I then proceeded to reenact the scene from the Broadway play The Miracle Worker, where Anne Bancroft was pumping water onto Patty Duke's hand as she miraculously uttered, "Water." Eddie replied, "I'm going upstairs."...
Vanity Fair party...
Movie stars spilled into the Annenberg tent, wolfing down In-N-Out burgers and taking selfies with every Oscar (gold or Lego yellow) they could get their hands on. People had sat next to each other for the past three hours in the Dolby Theatre were now frantically hugging and kissing each other, whether they won or not....
Every single nominee, presenter and A-lister was at this party. Notable New Yorkers included Jason Weinberg, Patricia Clarkson, Chloë Grace Moretz, Emily Mortimer, Edward Norton, Mark Ruffalo, Marisa Tomei, Naomi Watts, Alexander Gilkes....

Alexander attended the special screening of  TToE hosted by Sophia Coppola
on November 18, 2014 at the MOMA screening room in New York.

Eddie attended the American Museum of Natural History’s 2014 Museum Gala in New York
on 20 Nov. 2014.(x)
...Auctions at benefit galas are now part of every program. They are an additional fundraising device and they can be interesting and are meant with the best intent...
...The auctioneers are all polished and clever, and work hard at it. And theirs is all donated time and energy. Under ideal circumstances, they can be very successful. Thursday night was one such case. Mr. Gilkes who is a tall and wiry young Englishman of thirty-five, well groomed, well-turned out, naturally well-tailored as the Brits can appear to be, he seemed like a pleasant fellow with a pleasant manner of speaking at table. (I was at his table and was seated next to his wife, the fashion designer, Misha Nonoo.)...
...By the time Mr. Gilkes was finished (and he was brief), he’d managed to raise the evening’s total contributions by more than $1 million. I think they ended the night with a total of $3 million....
...After the main course came a performance by Bruno Mars....
Among those attendees joining Museum President Ellen V. Futter and the Gala Chairs Jodie and John Eastman, Tina Fey and Jeff Richmond, Alice and Lorne Michaels were: Cameron Diaz, Diana Agron, Eddie Redmayne, Catherine Keener, Seth Meyers, Mike Myers, Naomi Campbell etc.

In a new interview for British Vogue, Eddie praises the designer’s formal-with-a-twist
tailoring for its freshness. Also interwoven with those strong-yet-soft lines is the
romanticism the two creatives bonded over upon meeting at a V&A event some years ago,
when Kim Jones, the then-incoming menswear creative director, shared that his obsession
with the Bloomsbury set would underscore his vision for the house.

Just Jared:
“Please, I’m desperate to do Bananaman,” Eddie recently told Yahoo Movies about his love for the ’80s British cartoon. “Bananaman is this great guy who eats a banana, and he becomes Bananaman. He’s the one that I’ve always wanted to play, to the extent that Andrew Garfield — an old pal — was asked in an interview, ‘If you could play any superhero other than Spider-Man, who would you play?’ And he was thinking about it, and the interviewer was like, ‘Bananaman?’ And Andrew was like, ‘No, Eddie’s playing that.’”

I've tried to find images with similar settings

Thanks to Tracy for the old photo (taken on 3rd September 2008 at the Royal Court Theatre)

The Trial of the Chicago 7 project has been put on hold
in December, but it looks like it's back

Deadline revealed, that is now heading to market with an all-star cast including
Eddie Redmayne, Sacha Baron Cohen, Seth Rogen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt,
Jonathan Majors and Alex Sharp. Rocket Science has boarded international
sales and CAA Media Finance will handle U.S. with shoot now slated for late
summer. The anticipated project instantly becomes a red-hot prospect at the EFM
next week and its revival in the open market should be a major boon for buyers.
Redmayne will play Tom Hayden, Baron Cohen is Abbie Hoffman, Rogen will be
Jerry Rubin, Gordon-Levitt has been set to play Richard Schultz, Jonathan Majors
stars as Bobby Seale, and Alex Sharp will be Rennie Davis. I hear more A-list cast
may be coming. Michael Keaton has been coveted for the role of William Kunstler.

The story is set in 1968 and 1969, but speaks to the divisiveness of our times
and how young people can take on power and change the world. (x)
