Sarabande sessions full video

SARABANDE SESSIONS went live! A selection of Sarabande talks streaming live
for a limited (lockdown) period. First up - the fabulous Academy Award winning
costume designer Colleen Atwood with Eddie Redmayne (November 27, 2017).

"Colleen is one of the most formidable artists I've ever had the privilege to work with.
She has had huge acclaim. She was nominated for twelve Oscars, she won four, and the
variety and the span of her work from Philadelphia and The Silence of the Lamb through
the collaborations with Tim Burton, Rob Marshall, Jonathan Demme, David Yates..."

"The fascinating discussion touched on Colleen’s beginnings in the industry and her early
aspirations as a painter. She also talked through her design process, her relationship with
directors such as Tim Burton and Rob Marshall, and dissected the intricacies of creating
clothing for a character for film. Colleen explained “it’s not about 50 costume changes…
It’s about creating an iconic image for a character”. (x) - preview video

Colleen has designed for films such as Edward Scissorhands, Memoirs Of A Geisha,
Chicago, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Silence of the Lambs...

"Colleen will often make things that are very specific to the actor that will never be seen.
So on the Fantastic Beasts film, there was this intricate pocket design, which we basically
never see in the film, but it was a way in which I knew that all the creatures could be
hiding, and I know Ezra - who's here tonight (in the audience) - had the most stunning
bit of embroidery. It's not for anyone but it's for us..."
